How did superheroes get their powers?

is there an alien-bestowed superpower in those lists? i knew cats gave catwoman hers, so there must be (a) kidnapped human(s) were returned from an experiment by aliens to the earth and gained superpowers as result of being aliens' lab drat, but i must not have heard/read about them. any explanation is greatly appreciated.
