A converse to Pascal's wager please?

I am not questioning the existance of God, I want to ask this: instead of praying to God to fix all the problems of the world and hope that he does, wouldn't it be better if we did everything we could as individuals and as communities to fix the problems of the world? That way if God exists, he'd be proud, and if he doesn't, we still fixed the world. What do you think?
